When most people first hear about the lemonade diet, they envision sipping some sweet, cold lemonade and losing weight in the process. In reality, the lemonade diet is just another name for the “Master Cleanse” and it is a rather strict diet, but it is one that can have some significant benefits.
The lemonade diet is a type of fast, although it is not a strict fast, it is a liquid fast. The recipe that you use during the time that you are on the lemonade diet will generally give you about 800 calories per day, so it is not as strict as many people think. What is strict about it, however, is the fact that you are not going to have any solid food during the time that you are on the master cleanse. This makes it difficult for some people to complete but if you can stick to it, it can have significant benefits.
The basic recipe for the lemonade diet is to start with a glass of 8 ounces of clean water and add 2 tablespoons of organic lemons (freshly squeezed), 2 tablespoons of maple syrup (organic and raw) and a pinch of cayenne pepper. You can drink this concoction throughout the day and most people find that the sweet spot is approximately 10 glasses of this “lemonade” spread throughout the day. The only other liquid that you are permitted to drink without restriction is peppermint tea.
Since you’re not consuming any fiber during the time that you are on the lemonade diet, you need to keep the bowels moving properly. This requires that you do a salt water flush every morning. The basic recipe for a salt water flush is to take 1 quart of water and add 2 teaspoons of sea salt. It should be downed within 10 minutes after waking in the morning. If you have a difficulty with the salty taste, you can drink the 2 teaspoons of salt in a shot glass of water and then finish it off with the quart of clear water. You also need to drink some Smooth Move tea in the evening.
The duration of the lemonade diet is typically about 10 days, although some people find that doing it one day per week or even up to 40 days at a stretch is beneficial. It really depends upon you and what you are trying to accomplish with your health. Most people find that they benefit from the diet with an increase in energy, high mental clarity and even a reduction in serious health issues, such as lower blood pressure and more balanced blood sugar levels.
Part of the lemonade diet is breaking the fast when you decide to go back to regular food. This should be done slowly, with fresh squeezed orange juice being included on the first day and then fresh vegetable soup being added into the mix on consecutive days. It gives your body the opportunity to get back to eating regular food again.
The lemonade diet can be beneficial and if you can stick with it, you will see fantastic results. It takes some determination to stay the course, but it will reward you in more ways than you can imagine.
